Where did you grow up and where do you call home now?

I grew up in around Plymouth, Devon, where a lot of you guys left off all those years ago ! I now live on the North Coast of Devon, surrounded by miles of lovely beaches and coastlines!

How did you get started in filmmaking and why?

Just out of a passion and love really. Started out as a hobby, stoked to do it for a bit more. I think film is at its most inspiring when communicating a powerful message well.

How did Officescape come about?

Officescape was a piece commission by a local clothes company, to capture the lifestyle and fun of the brand and the surrounding area.

How did you come to meet the surfer's featured in the film?

I knew both girls as North Devon is a good little community of surfers, and Saltrock wanted to include some local surfers, who reflected the brand. They were a lot of fun to work with!

What was some of the challenges in making this film?

I think as always the surf and weather is always the variable. Was all filmed in one day, and we wanted to create a narrative, so I think trying to pick the right day is always a challenge!

Where was the film shot? The surf breaks?

This was filmed all in North Devon, starting in the nearby town of Barnstaple, and all through the lanes, to a beach called Middle Beach.

Tell us more about the surf culture and scene in United Kingdom..

So yeah, as we are a little island, we have lots of nooks and crannies to explore and surf. And there are often lots of options. We do get a fair amount of surf, and sometimes it can be really good. Definitely enough to keep you in the hunt. Autumn/Winter time is generally the best time for waves, though often cold.

Is there a discrepancy with the number of women and men that surf in the water in the UK?

Yes defo, more guys for sure, is better to have a balance, though I think more women are surfing these days, which is great to see. Creates better vibes.

Do you feel that women’s surfing has improved over the past decade? If so in what ways?

I would like to think it has. Looking at the top women surfers on the world tour, is safe to say it definitely has ! Ripping. There are some amazing female surfers. I think a women long boarding well, there is nothing more elegant in surfing.  Bethany Hamilton is a legend also, her last comp I saw her in was incredible.

Where has been your favorite places to surf and shoot surfers?

Really enjoyed filming in California, the light is often magical.

What can't you live without when you travel?

Good friends ! A memory is always better shared :)

Where do you find your personal inspiration?

From Life and everything it is and is sourced from. Is all around :)

Whats next for Simon or Ruwac Productions?

Whats next …. mmmm ….. lots of filming and exploring!
